THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE & BODYWORK SERVICES:
Swedish
Massage using medium pressure utilizing long smooth strokes and kneading to manipulate superficial muscle layers, reduce tension, soothe sore muscles and increase blood and lymph circulation to promote total physical and mental relaxation.
Relaxation
An oil massage using long, flowing strokes creating deep relaxation.
Prenatal/Pregnancy
Gentle massage and somatic therapies are performed by a specialist to alleviate common discomforts related to pregnancy. Helps labor preparation and makes postpartum transition less difficult. Deep tissue, Reflexology and Aromatherapy are contraindicated.
CranioSacral Therapy
Uses gentle technique/energy work. Seldom does the therapist apply pressure that exceeds five grams. CranioSacral treats restrictions in connective tissue using subtle traction or positioning. Light pressure is applied to the face, head and low back to free the flow of cerebrospinal fluid, allowing connective tissue to release and rebalance itself. This therapy encourages your body's natural mechanisms to improve functioning of your brain and spinal cord, dissipate the negative effects of stress, and enhance your general health and resistance to diseases.
Pre/Post Sports Massage
Pre-sports massage is designed to stimulate, warm-up and loosen the muscles before an event. Post-sports massage is a warm-down treatment to re tone the body following exertion in an athletic event. The therapist may use ice, stretching, and gentle rocking & muscle energy techniques to reduce inflammation and lactic acid build-up. Slow deep movements are used to manipulate specific muscle joint groups to bring body to peak performance. Benefits: 1. Maintain your entire body in better physical condition. 2. Prevent injuries and loss of mobility. 3. Boost athletic performance and endurance. 4. Cure and restore mobility to injured muscle tissue. 5. Extend both the good health and the overall life of your athletic "career."
Trigger Point Therapy
Trigger-points are hypersensitive spots in the muscle tissue. Trigger-points have the ability to "refer" pain to other parts of the body, sometimes quite distant from the trigger-point itself. Latent trigger-points lie dormant for years after the initial trauma, ready for stress, either physical or emotional, to set them off. Once a trigger-point is found, the therapist applies pressure; the sensation produced is invariably one of pain and then relief as the trigger-point releases grip on afflicted muscle, years of tension and pain melt away.
Integrative Bodywork
This type of bodywork is most popular and integrates a variety of massage/bodywork techniques by the therapist focusing on the needs of the client.
*We recommend 1 1/2 or 2 hour sessions for these services.
Orthopedic*
Combines some elements of sports and medical massage, integrating up to 10 different modalities to treat soft tissue pain and injury.
Deep Tissue*
Focuses on areas where hyper-tonicity or scar tissue has developed. Firm, steady pressure is applied slowly to specific points or constricted areas. Therapists may use Structural Integration (aka Rolfing), Myofascial Release, Trigger Point, Neuromuscular and Cross Fiber Friction Techniques to release adhesions.
Myofascial Release*
Uses a three-dimensional application of sustained pressure and movement into the connective tissue/facial system. Upon locating an area of facial tension, gentler pressure is applied in the direction of the restriction, relieving dysfunction in the body.
ORIENTAL BODYWORK (Client remains clothed)
Acupressure
An ancient healing art that uses the fingers to press key points on the surface of the skin along specific meridian channels throughout the body.
Reflexology
An ancient therapy involving manipulation fo specific reflex points. By applying pressure to a certain area of the foot, hand or ear, an organ or body part is affected in positive ways. This relaxing treatment can be integrated into any massage.
Reiki
Japanese word meaning "Universal Life Energy." This ancient healing art brings deep relaxation and release of energetic blockages to attune the body into a more balanced state. This gentle, yet powerful work can be integrated into any massage.
*We recommend 1 1/2 or 2 hour session for these services.
Shiatsu*
Firm pressure is applied with the finger, palm, elbow or knee to specific acupressure points along energy meridians to release stagnation and to facilitate the flow of Qi energy.
Tui Na*
This Chinese system uses pushing "Tui," squeezing "Na," oscillating and pressure techniques on specific acupressure points and channels to address disharmonies and stagnation in the body.
Thai Yoga*
Rhythmic pressure is applied with the palms, thumbs, feet and knees to balance the flow of energy. The patterns of gentle rocking, rhythmic compression and deep stretching ease the client into a deeply relaxed state while increasing flexibility.
